Racing to Prevent Childhood Obesity

The seventh annual Kitsap Family Fun Run and Fitness Fair is around the corner! The event will be held Sunday May 22nd at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion at the Fairgrounds. The event is a culmination of a 6-week fitness program for children and their families where participants accumulate 26.2 miles (a marathon's worth!) of fitness mileage. The run/walk is professionally timed by Race Directions and each participant receives a finish ribbon. The event put on by the Medical Society is part of our ongoing effort to raise awareness around the important issue of Childhood Obesity.
The event is also a fitness/nutrition fair where massage, yoga, disc golf, soccer with the Pumas, and fitness/nutrition booths and activities are available and on display. There are also raffle drawings for numerous prizes. The event is free to the public thanks to our amazing sponsors and especially our title sponsor; Harrison Medical Center! At the 2010 event the Kitsap County Medical Society also recognized three of our Medical Society Members for exceptional fitness. This is a new recognition award created in 2009 by the KCMS to recognize members in our own society that are leading by example when it comes to fitness and nutrition. The recipients are chosen by representatives from the KCMSF Board and our KCMS Members. In 2010 the recipients were:
