Press Release
The fifth annual Kitsap Family Fun Run and Fitness Fair held last Sunday at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion at the Fairgrounds was a great success with over 700 runners and a couple hundred volunteers and supporters. The event was a culmination of a 6-week fitness program for children and their families where participants accumulated 26.2 miles (a marathon's worth!) of fitness mileage. The runs were professionally timed by Race Directions. Each participant received a finish ribbon; marathon program finishers also received blue ribbons.
When not on the 1 mile or 5K courses, runners/walkers enjoyed refreshments, massage, yoga, disc golf, soccer with the Pumas, and fitness/nutrition displays and activities and raffle drawings inside the pavilion. The younger children ran kids' dashes and each received a toy "prize" for finishing. Each participant also received a run "goody" bag.
At the event the Kitsap County Medical Society also recognized three of our Medical Society Members for exceptional fitness. This is a new recognition award created by the KCMS to recognize members in our own society that are leading by example when it comes to fitness and nutrition. The first annual recipients were chosen by representatives from the KCMSF Board and the KCMS Executive Board. In 2010 the recipients will be voted on by our general membership in the fall. Congratulations to our 2009 Fitness Warriors!
