Future Goals to Improve/Benefit the KCMSF Fitness/Nutrition Event
The KCMSF Fitness/Nutrition event is a free event to our community funded by our loyal sponsors annually. We present the program to over 20K students (and their families) in Kitsap County. We are fortunate to have the assistance of our School Districts to distribute the fitness/nutrition packets to each student at school. With the help of the PE teachers and KCMSF Fun Run Staff we encourage/inspire the children to participate with the Fitness/Nutrition goals outlined in their packets. We explain the reward system as they build up their physical activity and eat healthy. The program ends in May at the Kitsap Fairgrounds Pavilion with a Fitness/Nutrition event. Students and families that can attend this event have an opportunity to run/walk a one-mile or 5K and young children can partake in our kid-dashes. With costs on the rise and a struggling economy the KCMSF must look beyond our community for the help of grants to ensure the growth of this important event.
Some of our goals include:
The creation of a professional Fitness/Nutrition DVD to present at our school assemblies to visually explain the program. The DVD would also be used in our sponsorship procurement packets to help with increased local funding. Currently we have a power-point presentation, but feel the need for a more polished, professional DVD. If funding allowed we would also add the addition of a sport celebrity (or two) to the DVD.
Approx. cost $6000
Pedometers for school children displaying fitness goals during the KCMSF marathon program
Approx. cost $7500
Reaching out to underserved populations in Kitsap County via our paid assemblies to educate and inspire students about our program. The assemblies cost the KCMSF approx. $400 per assembly. Currently we have funding to reach only 12% of our schools in Kitsap County. Our goal is to present an assembly in every Elementary school in Kitsap County, particularly in areas that are underserved populations (North and South Kitsap County).
Approx. cost $3000
Continued Education classes provided to physicians, school nurses and staff about Childhood Obesity prevention and awareness
Cost - $250 per attendee
INCREASED PARTICIPATION!!!
Increased participation means more cost for advertising via the newspaper, poster ads, invitations, event shirts, large banners, large rental reader boards and more school assemblies. We experienced a 50% increase in attendance from 2007 to 2008 and have enjoyed continued growth since. We have grown to such a level that we need part-time paid staff to help manage this event. Currently we have two part-time paid staff members. Their part-time status may need to evolve to a more full-time job at some point.
Approx. cost $7K + annual
